Ani Archeological Site, Çıldır Lake, Devil Castle and Aktaş Lake are other touristic attractions around Kuyucuk. Ani Archeological Site is very close to Kuyucuk via stablized path. Armenian, Georgian and Turkish people used to settle around. The city lays by the Armenian-Turkish border. Old Armenian and Georgian churches exist in the old city with the first mosque of Anatolia. Çıldır Lake is another place to visit. To arrive Çıldır Lake from Kuyucuk, you should go back to Kars direction until Akyaka-Arpaçay junction, then take Arpaçay way. The Lake is frozen in winter. Fishermen breaking the ice and fishing with net are very common on the lake. The fish from the lake is served at the restaurants around the lake. You may find horse-sledges on the frozen lake in Winter or you may skate. During Spring and Fall, the lake turns out to be ideal for birdwatch. The Lake is not only an Important Bird Area (IBA), but also an important Plant Area (IPA) with hundreds of species of plants and wild flowers. Moreover, Ardahan Youth Directorate has facilities for sailing and canoes on the lake. Though it is not deep, it is still possible to swim. On the other hand, trekking is not recıommended around the lake, since it is very steep and rugged.
Devil castle, another attraction of the region, is in a deep valey on the left hand side of Ardahan direction of the way after arriving Çıldır Town center. You may reach the castle by taking the stablized 1,5km path on the left. It stands on the highest hill of Karaçay Valley, the northeast of Yıldırımtepe Village. The exact date of establishment of the castle is unknown, but in comparison with other ancient buildings around, it is supposed to belong to Urartu Kingdom which reigned at the region between 880 BC.-585 BC. It used to have different names. The rugged and streep hill in cooperation with castle walls formed a strong guard. The rocks surrounding are as critical as two meters high walls of the castle. The castle has a chapel and a water cistern. The steps ahead to water cistern are still clearly noticable. Meds, Persian, Macedonians, Roman, Sassanidians, Seljuks, Ilhanlis, Karakoyunlus, Akkoyunlus, Safevis, Ottomans had utilized the castle for border guarding. Each of those societies utilized the castle, fixed it and made additional sections.
If you go to north direction from Çıldır town centrum, Aktaş Lake welcomes you at the end which lays by Georgian-Turkish border. It is another Important Bird Area (IBA) within the region. It is possible to watch variety of birds around. It is one of the rare sites in Turkey that white pelican (Pelecanus crispus) breeds. The Lake is in a military region, and it is required that you inform the Military Directorate before visiting the site. The town of Susuz has a waterfall referred to by its people as Su Uçan (meaning flying water) waterfall 24 kilometers away from the center of Kars. It is located on the left side of the road when driving from Susuz town to Ardahan province right after passing Susuz about 4 kilometers. The waterfall is not visible from the road so get a local guidance to find it. Besides that, the town also worth a visit for the thermal baths, which are said to be good for patients with rheumatism.
